Did you know that you can (probably) buy premium garden soil in bulk through your local sand & gravel supplier? Here in Sacramento, I use Hastie’s Capitol Sand & Gravel, and I get a whole yard of premium garden soil for about $65. Compared to buying the equivalent in bags, which is 27 cubic feet, it saves me money and time. I can spend 1 morning doing it all, and it’s good for the season. No mid-project trips to Lowe’s for soil, no plants waiting to be shifted to a larger container. It’s just already there and ready for planting.
I wish I would have done this years ago!! I cannot say it enough just how convenient it is. 😅🤩
Do you store soil?
I highly recommend it if you go through a lot. A yard has lasted me through all my spring and summer planting, and I think I’ll be good through fall, too.
I have a sprinkler near mine so it gets watered and stays healthy. Worms are even making an appearance now that I’m getting towards the bottom of the pile. 🤗🪱
Also, I built it right next to my compost, so double convenient for adding some fresh compost when shifting plants to larger containers!! I’m just so happy with it, and so is my garden. 🥹 Most definitely one of my most favorite things I’ve added to my backyard garden, hands down!
