Okay, so I finally did it. I don’t know what took me so long to do this, it’s a real game changer for me. If you are considering grow lights, I definitely recommend these, based purely off how easy they were to install.
No this is not a sponsored post or ad or anything, I browsed Amazon myself and chose an affordable set with great reviews. I’ve included the links here, and some notes below.
BARRINA GROW LIGHTS
BN-LINK TIMER
So, how it started was I found myself moving plants out too early this month, especially with the weird weather here in Sacramento. One day it’s sunny and 65, and then it’s high windstorms and rain for 36 hours. Really rude behavior for my young veggies! It’s just too cold and awful out there to move anything outside yet, even for my larger, sturdier seedlings. I lost a few that I had put out on a sunny day, and then of course forgot about.
Why was I putting plants out so early? Because I was running out of room in my garden window inside where I typically keep seedlings. My garden has expanded quite a bit the last 2 years, which, of course, means more seeds. My sunny windows only have so much sill space, so it’s just a natural time for me to get grow lights and expand my seedling capacity as well. And now that I installed the lights in my garage – I have more space to store my seedlings as they get shifted into larger pots, and I still have my garden window to keep the seeds in while they germinate. And next year I’m going to have so much more room to get things started early and a head start on my plants. This is why I wish I would have done this years ago! Anywho…
I only made a quick time lapse of installing the first 3 out of the 6 pack I ordered, but I assure you it was so easy a detailed how-to video would be a bit much. The package comes with accessories to hang, mount, or stick-on the lights – whatever your preference. They lights are so light, I just went with the stick-on squares and it was a piece of cake.
SOME NOTES:
– These are LED grow lights. They should not be as close to the plants as other types of grow lights. After some searching online, it seems that they should be 24-36″ from the base of the plant, and to adjust as needed. If you use halogen or a different kind of light, that might change things.
– If you have a vertical growing space, these can be mounted vertically or applied with the stick-on squares, no problem.
– The linking cords are long enough to go up shelves, so if you’re putting one light per rack on a multi-tier shelf that is not a problem.
Anyway, I hope this helps anyone looking for affordable, easy grow lights! So far I’m a pretty big fan. Here’s a quick video of me installing the first 3, look at how happy we all are! (Me and my seedlings… 😊)
