So far, so good!
I installed the remaining three lights, so now I have a total of 6 lights in my garage, and things seem to be going well.
My youngest seedlings have true leaves popping out, and my sunflowers are stretching up nice and tall and straight. Mostly everything is a healthy green color, which means they’re getting enough light, I was worried maybe they wouldn’t because the lights are 2-3 feet above them, but as mentioned in my last post, LED lights are a little different and need to be further from the plants than the other types of grow lights.

As for the rest of my garage, I don’t have heating pads underneath the trays, but I do have a heater that I turn up for a bit on the colder mornings. So at night it’s dropping down to about 50, and then during the day I warm it up to above 60 deg minimum so they can keep growing. This is a bit of a slower pace compared to being warm all the time, but I’m okay with that. I actually like how it’s mimicking the temp outside, so maybe it will be less of a shock when they do go out. I’ll probably get heating pads someday to increase the growth rates, but for now I’m still pretty happy with how things are going.
I also have a box fan going most of the time, as air movement is important for seedlings. It’s not pointed directly at them, but it keeps the air flow going in the garage.
So – yeah! I’m super excited, these lights are cheap, easy to install, and working well! And next year will be great, because I’ll be able to start my seeds earlier and have so much more to do in the winter and early spring with all this new growing space. I was a late (as usual) on my seeds this year, although a lot of that was because of our terrible 2023 weather and my limited space – which, of course, is why I bought grow lights in the first place…
Anywho, I’ll post another update later on once I’m putting some of these bad boys out in late April/May, and seeing how they adjust and grow.
Here are the links again to the lights and timer that I bought if you’re interested. (Note: I am not getting paid or anything for the links, I’m just sharing my experience….. but if they want to pay me that would be totally fine! 😁)
