Luffa sponges are grown on a plant, and are not from the ocean. They are edible when young and tender and look a bit like a zucchini. But letting them dry out and harden on the vine creates an all-natural sponge inside. The sponge is gentle yet exfoliating, and I haven’t used a single plastic loofah since I started growing these in 2023!
Organic sponges can last over a year with proper care, and reduce plastic waste into our oceans and landfills.
All of my loofahs are homegrown, peeled, and made by me. I do not use any pesticides or synthetic fertilizers in my yard or gardens, so all of my luffa are all natural and pesticide free. I can only grow so many per season, so once they are sold out I won’t have any more until the following year.
Since I cut them down to 4-6″ lengths and remove the cone shaped tips, I have bundles of thin cut rounds and odd sizes that I sell separately, which are great for soap makers or artists that use sponges.
